Mauritius Destination Wedding Cost for UK Couples

December 30, 2025

When a couple first gets engaged, the initial emotion is pure and unadulterated joy. They stare at the ring, they call their mums to scream down the phone, and they post a meticulously staged hand selfie on Instagram. It is mari top, which is Mauritian Creole for really great or absolutely fantastic.

Then, approximately 48 hours later, the second emotion hits them like a wet fish to the face. The Fear.

The Fear is realized the moment they open their laptop to Google “wedding venues near me” and realize that a drafty barn in the UK with no heating costs more than the GDP of a small island nation. We know this emotional rollercoaster well from talking to our readers. Many start looking into venues and logistics, and by the middle of January, they are ready to elope to the nearest registry office just to save their sanity.

We decided to simulate this process to find a solution. We started pricing up venues in the East Midlands as a control group for our study. As the calculator numbers climbed higher and higher, and we realized we had not even factored in a honeymoon budget yet, we had a moment of clarity on behalf of all stressed couples. We thought “Stuff this” and decided to pivot entirely to see if the grass was greener on the other side.

The number one bucket list destination for many is Mauritius. It is tropical, it is lush, and the hospitality is known to be serye, meaning serious or awesome in this context. So we decided to run the numbers and get a comprehensive quote for a destination wedding and honeymoon package combined. We wanted to see if it was actually feasible or just a pipe dream for the average couple.

Spoiler alert: It looks like it might be the best financial decision a couple could make. We are sharing our research notes, the receipts, and the breakdown we found to help you plan your own Mauritius destination wedding cost for UK couples without losing your mind.

Disclaimer: Please note that the costs mentioned in this article were checked around the middle of 2025 and are always subject to change based on exchange rates, seasonality, and resort pricing updates.

Why We Looked at Palm Trees Over Stately Homes

Before we get into the kas or money aspect of things, we need to explain the logic behind this research. Everyone has unique circumstances and priorities. For some couples, the dream is having 200 people in a local church followed by a sit down dinner of lukewarm chicken supreme.

For many others, the hypothetical “wedding” part, meaning the standing up and saying vows, is not the headline act. They care significantly more about the honeymoon and spending quality time together. They want to start a marriage looking at the ocean, not stressing about whether Great Aunt Edna is complaining about the draft in the reception hall.

A destination wedding made sense for our research profile for three very specific reasons that we identified during our analysis.

  1. The Honeymoon is Built In: There is no leaving the reception early to catch a 6 AM flight to the Maldives or waiting around at airports while hungover. The couple is already there. They wake up the next day in paradise. This consolidates two major expenses into one, which is a massive financial win.
  2. The Guest List Natural Selection: Many couples do not have a massive family or a legion of school friends here in the UK that they feel obligated to invite. The people they want there the most would have to travel regardless. It filters out the obligation invites naturally. It stops you from paying for meals for people you have not spoken to in five years.
  3. The “One Wedding A Day” Rule: We looked into the Beachcomber brand specifically because we trust their reputation, but critically because they only cater to one wedding a day. You are not part of a conveyor belt of brides bumping into each other in the hallway. You get their complete focus.

Also, a crucial logistical point we discovered is that Mauritius is one of those blessed destinations where the marriage is performed legally and is recognized in the UK immediately. You do not need to do a “symbolic” ceremony there and then a boring paperwork trip to the registry office back home. You sign the paper, you kiss the groom, and you are legally wed. If you are curious about the specifics of the paperwork, you should check out this guide on getting married in Mauritius to understand the requirements.

The Deal We Found

Disclaimer: This article is not sponsored by Beachcomber Resorts or any other hotel mentioned. The views and cost breakdowns shared here are entirely based on our own independent research and personal findings.

We gathered this data during the holiday sales period. If you are reading this outside of sale season, your pricing might vary slightly, but package deals are generally where the magic happens.

We opted to price up a bespoke package at the Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa. We did not want to price up just a standard room though. We decided to investigate the “Victoria for 2” side, which is the adults only section of the resort. Because nothing kills a romantic vibe faster than a toddler throwing a tantrum over a dropped ice cream at the breakfast buffet.

Here is the deep dive breakdown of what actually constitutes this Mauritius destination wedding cost. Grab a drink, because this list is extensive and we want you to see exactly where the value lies compared to a traditional wedding.

1. The Logistics and Travel

Getting there is half the battle, and flights can often eat up a huge chunk of any travel budget. The package we found includes Direct Return Flights from London Gatwick to Mauritius. No layovers in Dubai where you are tempted to buy unnecessary luxury goods at 3 AM. Direct flights are a non negotiable for most couples to keep stress levels low.

We also factored in 23kgs checked baggage each. This is plenty of space for the wedding dress, the suit, and the inevitable overpacking of sunscreen and shoes that will never be worn.

The package also includes Return Private Transfers for a party of four. In this scenario, we included costs for the couple and two parents. There is no sitting on a shared bus stopping at 14 other hotels before yours. You get in a car, you enjoy the air conditioning, and you arrive at the lobby in style.

2. The Accommodation for The Couple

We priced this for 13 Nights on an All Inclusive basis. When they say all inclusive in Mauritius, they generally mean it. It is not just the buffet; it often includes cocktails, snacks, and sometimes water sports.

The room type is a Swim Up Beach Facing Room in the adults only wing. Let us repeat that. Swim Up. You can roll out of bed, open the terrace door, and slide directly into a pool. In the UK, a hotel room with a view of a brick wall often costs hundreds of pounds a night. Here, you are practically living in the water.

3. The Accommodation for Family

We decided to factor in the cost of treating parents in the budget model. We assumed family flying in from abroad, so we covered their stay as a theoretical thank you for everything. They would stay for 7 Nights on an All Inclusive basis in the same Swim Up Beach Facing Room category in the adults only wing.

This is the part that usually stresses people out, but the package covers it all. It includes the cost of all legal procedures, fees, and documentation to get married.

It covers the Civil Status charges and the cost of transfers to and from the Civil Status office. Plus, the couple would get a dedicated wedding coordinator. This is invaluable. Having a local expert who speaks the language and knows exactly which forms need signing is a game changer. Trying to navigate foreign bureaucracy alone is a recipe for disaster, so having this included is worth its weight in gold.

5. The Wedding Day Bells and Whistles

This is where the Mauritius wedding budget really shines compared to the UK. If you tried to book these items individually back home, the costs would spiral out of control. We looked at UK florist prices and nearly fainted.

  • Venue Set Up: The couple gets a designated wedding location with full set up and decoration. Whether it is on the beach or in the gardens, it is taken care of. You do not need to hire a separate venue stylist.
  • Groom’s Sanctuary: A separate room for the groom before the ceremony so he does not see the bride and bad luck ensues.
  • Music: Recorded music during the ceremony to set the mood.
  • Florals: A Seasonal Bridal Bouquet and a Seasonal Groom’s Buttonhole. When they say seasonal in Mauritius, they mean stunning tropical flowers that are vibrant and fresh. These are not sad supermarket carnations.
  • Beauty: Hair and Make up for the bride including a trial run. This is crucial because humidity does funny things to hair, and you want to know the plan beforehand.
  • Photography: 50 full colour photos with digital copies. This is enough to capture the key moments without turning the day into a photoshoot.
  • The Food and Drink: A wedding cake enough to feed 10 people. A celebration breakfast for the couple the morning following the wedding. Canapés for up to 10 people. A glass of sparkling wine for the wedding party. A special romantic dinner for the bridal couple.

Food is a huge part of the Mauritian experience. The island is known for its incredible culinary diversity. If you want to know what kind of flavors the couple might be experiencing, check out this list of 10 must try foods in Mauritius. One might personally hope for some gateau piment on the side.

6. The Honeymoon Extras

Because this is a wedding and honeymoon combined, couples get extra perks included in the price.

  • A 1 Hour Couples Massage for the Bride and Groom.
  • Sparkling wine in the room upon arrival.
  • Free Honeymoon Experience: The couple gets to choose a full day activity. In our model, we selected a full day boat trip with a BBQ and drinks included onboard plus a snorkeling experience. There are various options available depending on the chosen resort. Exploring the island is a must. There are so many hidden gems in Mauritius that visitors are dying to see.

The Grand Total

Okay, the moment of truth.

For all of the above including the 13 night luxury stay for the couple, the 7 night luxury stay for the parents, the wedding ceremony, the legal fees, the food, the flowers, and the flights from London, the total Mauritius destination wedding cost came to £11,250.

To put that into perspective for our American friends or international readers, that is roughly $14,285 USD depending on the exchange rate of the day.

But wait because there is more math.

If we took the parents’ accommodation cost out of the equation, because not everyone treats their parents to a luxury week long holiday, the cost for just the couple to get married and have a two week honeymoon would have been only £8,800 in total. That is approximately $11,175 USD.

£8,800. For a wedding AND a honeymoon.

The Hidden Value of Stress Reduction

Aside from the clear monetary value, the psychological value is immense. The deposit is usually low, around 10 percent. The balance is not due until a few months before the date. You know exactly what to expect. There are no surprise invoices from the florist saying “Hydrangeas are out of season, that will be an extra £500.”

It helps keep the costs under control in planning, and couples know exactly what to expect. This gives them time to save and plan properly. More importantly, they can just enjoy being engaged and looking forward to a potential wedding without much stress. They are not spending their weekends gluing diamantes onto place cards. They are spending them looking at photos of the Indian Ocean and smiling.

The only thing that is left to budget for really is the wedding outfits and the rings. Maybe some wedding favours and gifts for guests, but apart from that it is everything needed and more to have an incredibly memorable wedding.

The Guest Situation and Considerations

Now, we have to address the downside or upside depending on how you look at it. A destination wedding is a big ask. Not everyone will join you for your big day because while it may be great value for the couple, it is not always the case for the guests.

To give you an idea, we found that guests would pay around £2,000 per person (approx $2,540 USD) for 7 nights, all inclusive with flights and transfers to stay at the resort with the couple if on double occupancy. It is around £2,550 (approx $3,240 USD) if on single occupancy.

Mauritius is not a cheap destination when not on an all inclusive plan, so guests staying at other locations would kind of make it a pointless trip for themselves because the group would not spend much time together. Also, safety and comfort are key for guests, so keeping them in the resort makes sense. If anyone is worried about safety on the island, we usually direct them to this article on is Mauritius safe to put their minds at ease.

Guests do get a massive wedding party discount from Beachcomber which helps, and in a sense they are getting an epic holiday at a stunning location, so there is value there for them. Perhaps just not as much as there is for the couple.

In our hypothetical scenario, we calculated for about 10 guests who might come including parents, so there would be a wedding party of at least 12 in total. All of whom are staying at the resort. We do not know how that will work in terms of the cake, canapes, and wine which are limited to up to 10 people in the package, but since everyone is on the all inclusive plan, we are not overly concerned. No one will go hungry or thirsty.

Guests would only stay during the first week, after which the couple waves them off back home and stays on to enjoy the honeymoon as newlyweds for an extra 5 full blissful days.

Weather and Timing

One of the reasons we looked at dates around May is the weather. It is important to check the best time to visit Mauritius before booking. May is generally lovely as it is the transition into winter, but Mauritian winter is basically a British summer on steroids. It should be warm, dry, and perfect for the beach. The idea of guaranteeing sunshine versus risking a British downpour is another major factor in the decision making process.

The Cultural Aspect

Another reason this option stands out to us is the culture. Mauritius is a melting pot of cultures, and the hospitality is legendary. Most couples want a wedding that feels relaxed and welcoming. If you want to understand the vibe of the people and the place, reading a guide to Mauritian culture really highlights why this island is so special. The people are warm, the music is infectious, and the atmosphere is just pure joy. It is hard to put a price tag on atmosphere, but it is certainly worth a lot.

The combination of French, Indian, African, and Chinese influences creates a unique environment that you simply cannot replicate in a hotel ballroom in the UK. The food, the music, and the smiles of the people add a layer of magic to the event that is included for free.

Final Thoughts on the Numbers

When we laid it all out in black and white, the choice seemed obvious. The cost of a mediocre wedding in the UK far outstrips the cost of a luxury wedding in Mauritius. The trade off is the guest list size, but for many couples, a smaller and more intimate wedding is actually preferable.

Our research is conclusive: the numbers speak for themselves. If you can get past the guilt of not inviting your second cousin twice removed, you can have the wedding of a lifetime for a fraction of the cost.
