These terms apply to everyone who uses creolemauritius.com. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

What the site offers

Creole Mauritius publishes free guides to travel, food, culture and everyday life in Mauritius, and free tools for learning Mauritian Creole: lessons, a dictionary, a phrasebook, a practice quiz and a holiday calendar. Lessons 1 and 2 are open to everyone; lessons 3 to 8 need a free account.

Information is a guide, not advice

We check what we publish and update guides when things change, but prices, bus routes and fares, opening hours, visa and permit rules, school terms and public holiday dates can change without notice. Always confirm important details with the official source (for example the Government of Mauritius, the Passport and Immigration Office or the operator) before you travel, sign a contract or make a payment.

Nothing on the site is legal, financial, tax, immigration or medical advice. Creole translations and audio are for learning; for official documents, use a certified translator.

Your account

• Give a real email address and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One account per person. Accounts are free and there is nothing to pay.
• We may suspend or delete accounts that are used for spam, abuse or to get around the site’s security.
• You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

Comments and messages

Questions and tips in the comments help other readers. Comments are checked before they appear, and we may edit or remove any comment. Please do not post:

• anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or threatening;
• other people’s personal details;
• advertising, affiliate links or spam;
• content you do not have the right to share.

By posting a comment you allow us to show it on the site, next to the name you give. You keep ownership of what you write.

Using our content

The text, photos, lesson material, audio and design of the site belong to Creole Mauritius or to the people who licensed them to us. You are welcome to:

• read, print and save pages for your own personal use;
• share links to any page;
• quote a short passage, with a link back to the page it comes from.

Please do not copy whole guides, lessons or the dictionary to another website or app, sell our material, or scrape the site with automated tools. For anything else, ask us first.

Advertising and affiliate links

The site is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense and includes affiliate links. When you book a tour, a car or another service through a partner link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Partners never pay to be included, and commissions do not change what we recommend. Pages with booking widgets carry a short notice. See the privacy policy for the cookies these services use.

Bookings with other companies

When you book or buy something through a link or widget on this site, your contract is with that company (for example GetYourGuide, Viator, Klook, Discover Cars or Airalo), not with us. Their terms, prices, cancellation and refund rules apply, and any problems with a booking must be raised with them.

Links to other websites

We link to websites we think are useful. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.

Availability

We try to keep the site running smoothly but cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, move or remove pages and features at any time.

Limitation of liability

The site is provided free of charge and “as is”. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from relying on its content, including missed transport, changed prices or bookings made with third parties. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Mauritius, and the courts of Mauritius have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live elsewhere, you keep any consumer rights your local law gives you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version, and the new terms apply from that date.
