About Creole Mauritius

How it started
Creole Mauritius began as a place to learn Kreol Morisien: simple lessons, a growing dictionary and a practice quiz for anyone who wanted to understand the language you hear in every bus, market and kitchen on the island.
Along the way the same questions kept coming up, from friends, visitors and people moving here. How do the buses work? What does a private doctor cost? Which market is on which day? Where can we watch the match? So we started writing the answers down.
Today the site is part language school, part island handbook, written for the people who use it most: those of us who live here, those who are moving here, and visitors who want more than the resort.

How we write
- Written from the island
The places are ones we know and the prices are ones we have paid. When we have not been somewhere, we say so.
- Checked and kept current
Fares, opening days and holiday dates change. We recheck them, and every guide shows when it was last updated.
- The answer first
Most guides open with the short answer, then the detail for anyone who needs it.
- Clear about money
The site is free to read. It is paid for by ads and a few affiliate links, which are marked wherever they appear and never decide what we recommend.
