The North: Grand Baie (The Party Capital)
If Mauritius had a crown for partying Grand Baie would be wearing it. This coastal town is where everyone goes to see and be seen. It is loud and lively and full of energy. If you are staying here you are already in the middle of the action.
1. Banana Beach Club
Location: Grand Baie The Vibe: Iconic, Tropical, Legendary Google Map: Get Directions
You cannot talk about nightlife in Mauritius without mentioning the Banana Beach Club. It is practically a national monument at this point. Locals just call it “Banana” because we like to keep things simple.
The bar is famous for the giant Flamboyant tree growing right in the middle of it. It gives the place a unique open air feel that you just cannot find in Europe. The music here is always on point. On some nights you will find a live band playing local Sega hits or international covers that make everyone sing along loudly (and badly). On other nights a DJ takes over to keep the energy high.
This is the perfect spot to start your night or end it. The cocktails are strong and colorful and the crowd is a mix of tourists and locals all having a good time. Order a “Mojito” or a local “Phoenix” beer and soak up the atmosphere. It is the kind of place where you walk in for one drink and leave three hours later with five new best friends.
2. N’Joy
Location: Grand Baie The Vibe: Stylish, Trendy, Gastronomic Google Map: Get Directions
If you want to dress up a little and feel fancy then N’Joy is where you should go. It is located just a short distance from the center of Grand Baie and offers a more polished experience.
Think of it as the cool older cousin of the other clubs. The decor is chic and modern and the lighting makes everyone look good in photos. They often host specific events like Jazz nights or themed parties so it is worth checking their schedule. The food here is also surprisingly good for a nightlife spot so you can come for dinner and stay for the dancing.
The music tends to be a mix of commercial hits and club anthems but it is never too aggressive. It strikes a nice balance between a lounge bar and a dance club. If you are calculating your budget using our Mauritius Living Cost Calculator 2025 you might want to allocate a little extra here as the cocktails are top tier but worth every rupee.
3. Insomnia Nightclub
Location: Grand Baie The Vibe: Intense, Loud, Late Night Google Map: Get Directions
The name says it all really. If you plan on sleeping then do not come here. Insomnia is for the serious party animals who think 2 AM is still early.
This is a proper nightclub experience. We are talking about flashing lights and thumping bass and a dance floor packed with people moving to the beat. The DJs here pump out house music and techno and the latest hits until the sun starts thinking about coming up.
It is often the last stop for many people after bars like Banana close. If you have the stamina this is where the party continues. Just make sure you do not have an early hike planned for the next morning. If you do plan to hike maybe check out our guide to Best Hikes in Mauritius and pick an easy one because your legs will be tired from dancing!
4. Les Enfants Terribles
Location: Pointe aux Canonniers The Vibe: Exclusive, Electric, Fun Google Map: Get Directions
Located just a few minutes drive from Grand Baie in Pointe aux Canonniers this club is another legend on the island. The name translates to “The Terrible Children” but don’t worry as the crowd is usually well behaved.
It has been around for years and has a loyal following. The atmosphere here is always electric. They hold themed parties regularly which keeps things fresh and exciting. The lighting system is fantastic and the sound system will rattle your bones in the best way possible.
It is a great alternative if you want to escape the main strip of Grand Baie but still want a high energy night out. It attracts a mix of expats and locals and tourists who know where the good spots are.
The West: Flic en Flac (The Chill Zone)
The west coast has a different flavor. It is more laid back and bohemian. The sunsets here are legendary and the nightlife reflects that relaxed beach vibe.
5. Kenzi Bar
Location: Flic en Flac The Vibe: Bohemian, Acoustic, Sand between your toes Google Map: Get Directions
Kenzi Bar is special. It is not a place with neon lights and smoke machines. It is a place with a garden and wooden furniture and sand on the floor. Yes you can dance barefoot here and nobody will judge you.
The vibe is pure island chill. You will often find live musicians playing acoustic sets or Sega bands creating a rhythm that makes your hips move on their own. It feels like you are hanging out in a friend’s very cool backyard.
The crowd is super friendly and it is a great place to have a conversation without screaming over the music. If you are staying in Flic en Flac this should be your go to spot for a relaxing but fun evening. Grab a rum cocktail and enjoy the warm night air.
Other Spots Worth Mentioning
While the North and West get all the glory there are a few other gems scattered around the island.
6. Gloria Bar
Location: Port Louis Google Map: Get Directions
Port Louis is mostly quiet at night but Gloria Bar is an exception. It is a popular stop for food and drinks. It has a very local feel and is a great place to see how the residents of the capital unwind. If you are in the area it is worth a visit to experience a slice of urban Mauritian life.
7. Irish Pub
Location: Trianon Google Map: Get Directions
Sometimes you just want a pint of Guinness and some familiar comfort. The Irish Pub in Trianon offers exactly that. It is centrally located which makes it a good meeting point for people coming from different parts of the island. They often have live music and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. It is a great place to warm up before heading further north for the harder partying.

Essential Nightlife Tips for a Serye (Serious) Night Out
To ensure you have the best time possible here are a few tips from a local friend.
Transport is Key
Please do not drink and drive. Our roads can be narrow and winding and police checks are frequent. Taxis are available but they can be expensive late at night. It is best to organize your ride home in advance or use a reliable taxi service. Check out our Mauritius Transport Guide for more details on how to get around safely.
Dress the Part
Mauritians like to dress up when they go out. While beach bars are casual clubs like Insomnia or N’Joy prefer a “smart casual” look. Leave the flip flops at the hotel for the clubs. You do not want to be the person turned away at the door because of your footwear. Ayo that would be embarrassing!
Safety First
Mauritius is generally very safe but common sense always applies. Keep an eye on your drinks and stick with your friends. If you are walking at night stay in well lit areas. For a deeper dive into staying safe read our article Is Mauritius Safe? An Honest Guide.
Late Night Munchies
After all that dancing you will definitely be hungry. Street food vendors often set up near the clubs selling noodles or kebabs. Do not resist them. There is nothing better than hot “mine frit” (fried noodles) at 3 AM. It is one of the 10 Must Try Foods in Mauritius.
So there you have it. You are now armed with all the knowledge you need to conquer the Mauritian night. Put on your dancing shoes and get out there. The island is waiting for you!
Allez! Have a great night!
